The male suspect attempted to elude the deputy by running into the restaurant’s bathroom, according to the report.
As the deputy attempted to arrest the man, he wrestled and pulled away. When another deputed arrived to help, the wrestling continued. That is when the second deputy was bitten by the suspect in the upper thigh tearing a hole in his uniform and breaking the skin.
The deputies continued to try to subdue the suspect deploying a Taser twice, once while the suspect continued to struggle, and a deputy was hit by the Taser shock knocking him to the ground.
“The fight was on. It was not pretty. He (the suspect) was just completely noncompliant,” said Butler County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Anthony Dwyer.
A customer in one of the bathroom stalls was a witness and unable to get out while the struggle ensued.
There was a large response from additional deputies and Trenton officers assisted with the situation.
When Tyler Widmeyer was finally taken into custody, $35 worth of groceries allegedly stolen from Kroger were found in his belongings, according to the deputy report.
Widmeyer, 31, of Franklin, was charged with felony assault on a police officer and misdemeanor theft and resisting arrest and booked into the Middletown City Jail.
The deputy bitten was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
